2018. Combination collagraph and linocut 57 x 42cm. Project 5.2 Unusual Textures: Arcadia Recycled 3. Concept: I had expected this image to be a failure. The textures and effects were impossible to plan and the image only revealed itself after it was printed. It is the last of the ‘Unusual Textures’ series using a collagraph plate made from recycled bubblewrap and netting based on another geometric screenprint from the Grand Arcade. The base image is an old linocut of ‘The Dance’ on torn newsprint paper turned on its side. Before cleaning the plate I re-inked and printed with black and then rotated and overprinted with white. I selected this image because the more I looked at it, the more I thought it summed up the emotional depths I had reached over that difficult summer – now the only way was up again.

Technical details: Collagraph of recycled bubblewrap and netting using oil-based inks over original linocut on torn Newsprint paper.
